Since 2010, KISCO has been certified under the bluesign® system. The bluesign® system is a sustainability framework for the entire textile supply chain. The process tracks the progress of companies in five key areas: resource productivity, consumer safety, air emissions, water emissions and occupational health and safety. Independent audits identify areas for improvement and certify operations. KISCO has used the bluesign® process to replace chemicals with safer alternatives and to ensure that our waste, safety and environmental processes are world-class. By committing to the bluesign® system, KISCO is helping to ensure sustainability and supply chain transparency across the textile industry
Other bluesign® system partners include chemical suppliers such as BASF SE, Huntsman Textile Effects and Asahi Glass Co. Ltd., manufacturers such as Kolon Fashion, Tübas and Youngone and brands such as adidas, lululemon athletica, NIKE and Patagonia.
For more information about the bluesign® system, see www.bluesign.com
KISCO is also certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). The aim of the GOTS is to “define requirements to ensure the organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer. GOTS includes the mandatory assessment of all input chemical products according to criteria that are in line with the demands on the textile sector formulated by influential environmental organizations”. KISCO’s textile products have been audited by the Swiss Institute for Marketecology (IMO) under GOTS Version 4.0. The GOTS sets standards for environmental, technical and social performance to ensure that companies are operating sustainably and ethically.
KISCO is a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) and publishes our own positive list of chemicals allowed under the ZDHC MRSL.
The SAC is an international association of manufacturers, brands and retailers that is developing a universal approach to measuring sustainability performance. Members include brands such as adidas, asics, nike, inditex and patagonia; retailers such as Walmart, H&M and Macy’s and manufacturers such as DuPont, Huntsman and Lenzing. The SAC’s key tool is the Higg Index which enables all participants in the apparel, footwear and home textile industries to measure their environmental, social and labor impacts.
The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Programme is a framework for addressing the use of hazardous chemicals in the entire global textile and footwear supply chain. The ZDHC Joint Roadmap, Version 2, defines a Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) for the apparel and footwear industry. The MRSL covers chemicals that could be released into the environment during manufacturing and production processes as well as those that might be present in the finished product. KISCO has developed a list of dyes and chemicals which do not intentionally contain any of the substances in the priority chemical groups above the limits listed in the ZDHC MRSL and therefore can be used to supply textiles to brands that have signed up to Version 2 of the Joint Roadmap.
